THE YORKSHIRE P.G.A. CHAMPIONSHIP
This 36 hole Championship to find the Champion Professional Golfer of Yorkshire has been played for over 80 years at the most prestigious courses all around Yorkshire. Willow Valley was made host of the Championship in 2003 and will continue to host the event until 2013. In the 1st three years no player has beaten par for their final score over 2 rounds on this Par 72, 7032 yard course. Last year saw a fantastic individual round of 5 under par 67 by Leeds professional Aaron Wainwright, a previous winner of the Championship in 2003. Adrian Ambler won in 2004 to add to his previous victories before Gordon Brand who boasts a Ryder Cup pedigree won in 2005. For each year Willow Valley has hosted the Championship it has produced a quality winner and 2006 was no exception when in difficult conditions John Wells of Beverley scored 145 (+1) for his 2 rounds to claim the 1st Prize of two thousand pounds and have his name engraved on the Championship Plate (shown above). John has been predicted for a promising career in tournament golf with hopes of a European Tour Card in the near future. The Championship played in late June each year ends with a Pro-Am on the 3rd day giving amateurs a chance to emulate the quality golf they have been watching over the previous 2 days. Teams are invited to enter by contacting either the Yorkshire Professional Golfers Association or Willow Valley Golf.
