It was anticipated that scoring would generally be poor this past weekend with the tough conditions making the Championship Course even more of a test than usual. However, on both Saturday and Sunday we were proved wrong with some very impressive scores appearing.
The Saturday Stableford seen past Captain Colin Buzzard put together a tremendous score of 42 points to win the first division. Steve Durkin was the distant runner up to Colin with a total of 35 points. Division 2 turned out to be much closer with plenty of scores in the high 30s. Joe Smith made it two wins in two weeks with his solid return of 39 points. Gary Whitworth finished a close second on 37 points.
Sunday brought us Medal 12, the final strokeplay competition of the season. As mentioned, scoring was predicted to be high, maybe even over par considering the format. However, George Branch scored 73(6) for a 67 and only won division one on a scorecard playoff! Damon Sandison was the unlucky player beaten on countback after his 77 less 10 matched the score of Branch. Division 2 turned out to also be a close fought battle with just a shot separating the top 2. Karl Larkin took the spoils with his 87 less 19 handicap resulting in a score of 68. Mark Astin was the runner up with a 69. It really is impressive general scoring considering the conditions so a big well done to all those who participated.
