It was a busy weekend of competition at Willow Valley. It turned out to be not quite as dramatic as The Open Championship final round but enjoyable nonetheless! I’m sure you will all agree that the back nine at Royal Birkdale on Sunday made for some spectacular viewing and can only drive the game onwards and upwards.
Back to matters at home with our Saturday Stableford taking place in extremely tough conditions. Jon Sharp returned a very respectable 38 points to take first place in division 1 with George Parkinson the runner up on 36. Division 2 was even closer with Gary Whitworth scoring 39 points which edged Gareth Jones into second place with 38 points.
On Open Championship Sunday we put on a Blue Tee Texas Scramble from the professional tees on The Championship Course. The winning team by more than 2 shots was Scott Smith, Tim Brook, Chris Riley and Anthony Harper. The score of 56.9 was easily enough to win on the day by a clear 2.2 shots which is a substantial margin in the scramble format. Well done and thanks to everyone who participated in challenging conditions over the weekend.
