One of our most popular events of the year took place on Saturday 6th May. The members turned out in large numbers for the annual Captains Drive In and the shotgun start Stableford that goes along with it. Captain Michael Cassidy was cheered on by the members for his opening tee shot and a good day was had by all. The competition itself was won by Darren Bakes with a score of 39 points. Martin Winter was the runner up on 38 points, narrowly missing out by a single point. Neil Emery took third place with a credible 36 points.
The following day seen Medal 3 take place. The strokeplay format normally makes scoring more difficult and considering the wind, it was expected that the scores wouldn’t be great. However, Jeremy Bakes decided otherwise by winning Division 1, returning an excellent nett 70. With brother Darren winning the Captains Drive In the day before, it really was a great weekend of golf for the Bakes brothers. Runner up to Jeremy in the first division was Steve King. Division 2 brought the score of the day with long time member David Hartley returning an excellent nett 66 to comfortably win by 4 shots. Runner up to David was Mark Astin.
Well done to everyone who participated over the weekend and hopefully we will get a good turnout next week for The Williams Trophy, our second major of the year.
